Comparison study of Poly(styrene sulfonic acid)-Gafted Fluoropolymer Membranes Prepared with Various Fluorinated Polymer Film |

In this study, poly(styrene sulfonic acid) was grafted onto FEP (Poly(tetrafluoroethylene-co-hexafluoropropylene)), PFA (Poly(tetrafluoroethylene-co-perfluorovinylether)), and ETFE (Poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoroethylene)) by a simultaneous irradiation method using γ-rays. Several fluoropolymer membranes with similar DOG (degree of grafting) were prepared and subjected to a characterization study such as IEC (ion exchanging capacity), water uptake, proton conductivity, methanol permeability, and chemical stability. The results indicated that the ETFE based membrane showed a higher chemical stability than FEP and PFA based membranes. No significant differences in other characteristic properties were observed between the fluoropolymer membranes. |
