Plant-derived monoterpenoids have shown to possess various biological effects, which provide the scientific base for their potential usage as antibacterial agents. The aim of this study was to fabricate and characterize various concentrations of plant derived monoterpenoids, geraniol and carvacrol, loaded to poly(lactic acid) electrospun nanofibers. Carvacrol and geraniol showed potent antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis strain. A 10 wt% carvacrol loaded electrospun web had the most bactericidal activity, with the widest inhibition zone of 5.26 cm. On the other hand, geraniol little show antibacterial effect at 5 wt% against both strains due to the difference of chemical structures. |
