Chitosan: A biodegradable natural polymer for controlled drug delivery systems |
초록 |
Naturally occurring polymers are playing significant role in formulations of controlled and sustained drug delivery systems as they are not only biocompatible but extracted easily without harming any vital parts of the human body. In comparison to non-degradable synthetic polymers, the natural polymers also provide excellent drug loading capacity that lead to develop delivery systems that sustain controlled drug delivery for a longer period in comparison to synthetic polymers. The application of biocompatible polyelectrolytes has further enhanced the importance of naturally occurring chitosan to produce cross-linked delivery systems having tailor made properties for site specific targeting and delivery. The talk will cover structure property relationship to explain drug release behavior considering various parameters. |
