Effects of transition metal impregnated on Al2O3 and oxidant on FAME epoxidation were systematically studied in this research. Catalytic performance of Cu, Mn, Mo, Ni, Zn, Co, and Fe-based catalysts was evaluated in the epoxidation process with H2O2 and O2. Mo and Zn-based catalysts showed the highest catalytic activities in H2O2-based epoxidation. Interestingly, Cu and Mn-based catalysts exhibiting the poorest activities in the reaction condition showed superior catalytic performance than Mo and Zn catalysts in the O2-based epoxidation system. These results were significantly related to catalytic properties, such as acidity, reducibility, and oxidant adsorption. Plausible reaction pathways were proposed to explain the relationship among catalytic property, oxidant, and conversion of FAME to its epoxides. This work was conducted under the framework of the research and development program of the Korea Institute of Energy Research (C2-2431). |
