Polypropylene(PP) is one of the cheapest synthetic polymers and is used in a wide variety of applications, including textiles, automotive components, etc. However, PP has poor degradability and is highly hydrophobic. Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is biodegradable and compostable thermoplastic derived from renewable plant sources, such as corn. The blend fiber of PP and PLA which have similar processing temperatures could be used as an alternative of PP in terms of improving the environmentally friendliness and hydrophilicity of PP. The objective of this study is to investigate the crystalline, melting process, glass transition, and heat capacity of PP/PLA blend fiber and compare to those of PP and PLA by DSC in order to apply PP/PLA blend fiber to the biocomposite. |
