Mass spectrometry (MS) is an analytical technique to determine the mass of a sample or molecule. It can be used for elucidating the composition of a sample or the chemical structures of molecules, such as small chemical compounds, peptides and even polymers. To help the understandings on MS, the MS principle of ionizing and measuring methods to generate charged molecules and measure their mass-to-charge ratios will be explained. In addition, the application of MS to biological samples will be shown with several examples on the detections of protein-small molecule interaction and protein-DNA interaction. |
