Experimental Atomization of Diesel Fuel using a Mechanical Device (FAD) |
초록 |
Diesel atomization plays an important role in fuel combustion efficiency in an internal engine. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of a Fuel Activation Device with a lab scale test and field experiment. This auxiliary device with mechanical structure of cavitation showed size reduction of injected fuel drops from 63 µm to 36.3 µm based on Sauter Mean Diameter, and 54.7 µm to 39.8 µm depending on nozzle type such as for diesel cars and for industrial boilers respectively. The field test for a heavy diesel truck showed an obvious reduction of air pollutants to be released including particulate matters, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides. The decreasing rate of PM was 13% to approximately 50% depending on driving speed. CO was diminished at 20% to the above, and NOx was not found in a significant decrease. Fuel also was less consumed at 5% to 18% comparing to the condition without the device. |
