제목 Extraordinary Enhancement of UV Absorption in TiO2 Particles Decorated with Low-Oxidized Graphene Nanodots
초록 Titanium oxide (TiO2) has been utilized in various applications including environmental and energies with its strong ultraviolet (UV) absorption. Accordingly, it is greatly demanded to further improve the UV absorption of TiO2 to broaden its versatility. Here, we report a strong UV absorption enhancement from TiO2 NPs achieved by decorating graphene nanodots (GNDs) with low oxygen concentration. Chemically-bonded TiO2 NPs/GNDs composites exhibit highly tunable UV absorption, achieving over 280% enhancement of optical density at the absorption band at 338 nm. Their underlying mechanism has been identified to direct charge transfer absorption from LUMO level of the low-oxidized GNDs which have a wide band gap (~3.1 eV) with their extremely low oxygen concentration to conduction band of TiO2 NPs. Also, the significantly improved photocatalytic dye degradation and UV shielding results of the composites reveal their high promise for applications benefiting from enhanced UV absorption.
