Mechanical Interfacial Properties of Electroless Ni-plated Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes/Epoxy Nanocomposites |

In this study, a method based on nanoscaled Ni-P alloy coating on surface of MWCNTs is proposed for the improvement of interfacial properties between MWCNTs and epoxy resins. The surfaces properties of the MWCNTs were characterized by SEM and XPS. Mechanical interfacial properties of the nanocomposites were investigated by KIC measurements. Experimental results showed that Ni and P amounts were increased as the electroless nickel plating both KIC was also slightly improved. This was probably due to the effect of substituted Ni-P alloy, leading to an increase of the resistance to the deformation and the crack initiation of the epoxy resins. |
