In this study, rheological behaviors of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)-reinforced epoxy matrix nanocomposites with various MWCNT contents were investigated with an oscillatory rheometer. The content of MWNTs in the mixtures was varied with 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, and 1.2 wt%.The nanocomposites containing chemically treated MWCNTs exhibited faster gel time than pure epoxy resins. Also, storage (G') and loss (G") moduli of the nanocomposites showed a solid-like behavior owing to the existence of interaction between the MWCNTs and the epoxy resins. In particular, 1.0 wt% MWCNT nanocomposites had the highest crosslinking activation energy (Ec). These implied that three-dimensional crosslinking might take place among the hydroxyl group in epoxy resins and the carbonyl or hydroxyl group in chemically treated MWCNTs. |
