In this study, multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs)-reinforced epoxy matrix nanocomposites were studied for the effect of chemical treatment on MWNTs. The MWNTs were treated with 5M HNO3 solution and the content of MWNTs in the mixture was varied with 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, and 1.2 wt%. The change of surface properties of the MWNTs were examined by FT-IR. Thermal properties of the nanocomposites were examined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Mechanical behaviors of the nanocomposites were discussed in the chemically treated MWNTs in an epoxy matrix system. |
