제목 Synthesis of Sulfur-Pyrene Copolymers as Binder-Free High Sulfur Content Cathode Materials for Lithium-Sulfur Batteries
초록 As a potential alternative for conventional Li-ion batteries, tremendous efforts have been placed on the development of well-defined Li-S batteries owing to their extraordinarily high capacity. However, the inherent insulating property of sulfur requires it to be blended with a significant amount of conducting carbon materials and proper binder additives, resulting in significant decrease in the ‘actual’ specific capacity of fabricated cells. In order to address this challenge, we synthesized a new type of polymeric sulfur through copolymerization of sulfur with pyrene derivatives and conducted complexation of the copolymer with several carbon nanomaterials. Incorporation of polycyclic aromatic pyrene moiety is expected to enhance the adhesion and compatibility between carbon materials and active sulfur copolymers, leading to the improvement in capacity and overall kinetic performance of the cell.
