A phosphorus-nitrogen flame retardant (PNFR) was synthesized for polyketone (PK). The neat and flame-retarding PK was prepared via solution casting method. Firstly, the flame-retardant mechanism of PNFR was investigated using TG-FTIR and SEM. Then, the flame retardancy of neat and flame-retarding PK was evaluated by limiting oxygen index and vertical burning test. After combustion, the morphology of residual char was recorded via SEM. To confirm the thermal stability, TGA was performed. With the addition of PNFR, while thermal stability of PK decreased, the considerable amount of residual char was observed. Also, the flame-retarding PK exhibited the superior flame retardancy by self-extinguishing property. In addition, the addition of PNFR decreased meting point and crystallinity of PK, suggesting that PNFR induced plasticizing effect into PK. |
