Sulfonated polyethyleneglycol incorporated liposomes (SP-liposomes) have been studied to reduce the plasma protein adsorption and to enhance the stability of liposome in the bovine serum. Thus, we synthesized the sulfonated polyethyleneglycol (SP) to prepare the long-circulation liposomes. Synthesis of SP was confirmed by observing the sulfonate group in SP through the FT-IR and elemental analyzer (EA). The SP-liposomes were composed of Cholesterol, L-a-Phosphatidylcholine (Soy-Hydrogenated) and SP conjugated DSPE. The protein adsorption of liposomes in the bovine serum was determined by the Bradford assay. The amount of the protein adsorption of SP-liposomes in the bovine serum was lower than that of conventional liposomes. This result indicates that the surface modification of liposomes using SP conjugated DSPE reduces the plasma protein adsorption by their electrical repulsion between SP-liposomes surface and plasma protein. In conclusion, the SP-liposomes showed the long-circulation in the bovine serum. |
