Insulin-Low Molecular Weight Chitosan (LMWC) Conjugate as A New Oral Delivery Platform |

A new oral delivery system of insulin in the form of the conjugate with low molecular weight chitosan (LMWC) was developed. The calculated bioactivity of the insulin-LMWC conjugate was about 44% relative to that of native insulin, indicating that biological activity of the insulin-LMWC conjugate was yet retained. The insulin-LMWC conjugate reduced blood glucose level about 40% within 3 hours post administration. Good efficacy with bioavailability of 3.69±0.29 % was obtained with refer to that of the subcutaneously injected native insulin as 100 %. The present insulin-LMWC conjugate system has offered a promising strategy to the enhancement of therapeutic outcomes of insulin by oral administration. A future study is currently under way to optimize the conjugate system. |
