In this study, the titanate treatments of carbon fiber surfaces were carried out to improve the interfacial adhesion between carbon fibers and matrices. The surface properties were characterized using SEM, XPS, FT-IR spectroscopy, and contact angle measurements. The mechanical interfacial properties were investigated using ILSS and KIC. As a result, it was showed that the surface free energy was increased after titanate treatments. This result indicates that the titanate treatments play an important role in improving the degree of adhesion at interfaces in this composite system. |
