Silica nanoparticles have gained many interests not only in the scientific field, but also in the industry field, such as reinforced nanofillers, catalysis, and stabilizers. Since the quality of these nanoparticles is strongly dependent on the size and the uniformity of nanoparticles, the demand for silica nanoparticles with narrow size distribution and with much smaller size has been rapidly increased. Although typical sol-gel method is generally regarded as the simplest and the most effective route to prepare silica particles in the range of 0.1 ~ 2 μm, a new sol-gel process will be necessary to prepare the silica size of below 10 nm. In this study, we have developed a technique for tuning silica nanoparticles using graphene oxide nanosheets as a sacrificial template and the reaction kinetics of silica nanoparticle formation with and without graphene oxide nanosheets in the reaction solutions. |
