Ether and Ester-functional Ionic Compounds as Electrolyte Additives for Lithium Batteries |

Imidazolium-based zwitterionic compounds containing an ester or an ether group at C-1 or C-2 position on the imidazolium ring were synthesized and characterized. These compounds exhibit enhanced electrochemical properties compared with those of their alkyl-substituted or non-substituted relatives. FT-IR study showed that those compounds interact with Lithium ion through their functional groups. Correspondingly, the structures of the zwitterionic compounds and their interactions with lithium ions were theoretically investigated. Cell tests results also showed that the addition of these zwitterionic compounds into a conventional electrolyte give enhanced C-rate performance. |
