Thermo-responsive polymer nanocomposites based on the PVME and nanofillers with photothermal conversion property were fabricated by simple solution mixing. In order to overcome strong hydrophobic interaction of PVME in pure water over LCST, ethanol was added into aqueous PVME solutions as a co-solvent. In the ethanol-water mixture, PVME aggregates showed uniformly dispersed state in the solution over LCST and exhibited a prompt transparent-opaque transition during heating and cooling processes. When GO, ATO, and Ag NPs were introduced as photothermal conversion materials, the nanocomposite containing GO showed the highest photothermal efficiency. The nanocomposite based on PVME and GO showed rapidly reversible and reliable transparent-opaque transitions during the repeated heating and cooling processes. We believe that these nanocomposites can be successfully used as thermo-responsive materials for smart window applications. |
