제목 Synthesis and Investigation of sulfonated polymers and the effects of branching on polymers as Proton exchange membranes
초록 Branched and linear sulfonated poly(phenylene)s containing benzophenone moiety were synthesized by nickel catalyzed polymerization reaction from 1,4-dichloro-2,5-dibenzoylbenzene, 1,4-dichloro-2-benzoylbenzene and 1,3,5-trichlorobenzene (branching agent). Monomer was prepared from an oxidation reaction with KMnO4, followed by Fridel-craft reaction. The desire polymers were soluble in NMP, DMSO, and DMAc and form dense and smooth films. The structure of the resultant polymers and monomer were confirmed by 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Compared with the linear polymers, the branched polymers showed better dimensional, mechanical and thermo-oxidative stabilities. Therefore, branching is a fruitful way to develop proton exchange membranes with excellent properties. Membrane properties were studied with regard to IEC, dimensional stability, proton conductivity, Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and water uptake. The Surface morphology of membranes was also analyzed by atomic force microscope (AFM).
