A development of electronic skin (e-skin) is a great importance in robotics, healthcare, wearable electronics, and medical applications. Here, a nature-inspired interlocked ZnO nanowire (NW) arrays is suggested for a pressure-sensitive e-skin. The high-quality of vertical ZnO NW arrays could be easily synthesized using a low-cost, large-area hydrothermal method. The interlocked ZnO NW arrays with a high aspect ratio show a great pressure sensitivity (1.86 |kPa-1|) and ultra-fast response time (< 0.17 ms) through a piezoresistive transduction process. In addition, the interlocked ZnO NW arrays demonstrate a great durability (> 1,000 cycles) with least hysteresis (< 2.0%) at high pressure regimes (> 13 kPa) and a remarkable stability against temperature variations (30 – 90 ℃). Furthermore, we demonstrate that the hierarchical ZnO NW arrays combined with PDMS microstructure show a greatly improved pressure sensitivity (6.82 |kPa-1|) compared to planar ZnO NW arrays. |
