Water-gas shift (WGS) reaction plays a crucial role in purifying hydrogen after various reforming processes. The reformed hydrogen contains small quantity of CO, which can cause serious malfunction of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). To reduce CO below 100 ppm, the low temperature WGS reaction on the ceria supported platinum catalysts was introduced to verify the effects of various Pt precursors. The catalyst prepared from diamminedinitroplatinum precursor showed a higher stability for WGS reaction due to its strong interaction with ceria support. The kinetics on the selected catalyst was studied at various operating conditions, and the optimal operating condition was found to be 280oC and H2O/CO molar ratio of 9. |
