Regeneration of tendon-to-bone interface using BMP-2 loaded hydrogel |

The distinctive structure of the tendon-bone junction is important for the effective transmission of mechanical force between soft tendon and hard bone, composed of a tendon, noncalcified fibrocartilage, calcified fibrocartilage, and bone. In this study, we focused on the regeneration of this interface in the porous rod-type PLCL scaffold, seeding tenocytes and fibrochondrocytes at each designated part separately. Especially, BMP-2 and fibrochondrocytes were loaded together in the heparin-based hydrogel and expected to induce the formation of fibrocartilage transition zone. After 2 months of tissue culture, regeneration at interface was evaluated concerning how well the specific characteristics of interfacial tissues were expressed. |
