제목 | Temperature/pH response of porous alginate-g- poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) hydrogels based on γ-ray irradiation |
초록 | The advantages of γ-ray irradiation methods are that they are relatively simple and do not require the addition of any extra materials for polymerization and cross-linking. From those reasons, the γ-irradiation technique is found to be very useful in preparing hydrogels for medical applications, where even a small contamination is undesirable. In addition, the degree of cross-linking, which strongly determines the extent of swelling in hydrogels can be easily controlled by varying the dose rates of the γ-ray irradiation. In this study, we prepared porous and film-like alginate hydrogels grafted with PNIPAAm using the γ-ray irradiation technique. As a control, UV ray was also irradiated onto the same hydrogel sample. The effect of the grafted PNIPAAm and the porosity of the hydrogel are taken into account when discussing the degree of swelling. The swelling behaviors were measured in the equilibrium state and the pulsatile pattern under the external stimulus such as the pH and temperature. In conclusion, the graft yield of PNIPAAm increased with the porosity of alginate hydrogel due to the increase of the surface area. The porous hydrogel appeared more rapid swelling behaviors than a film-like hydrogel under the stimuli such as pH and temperature. |
