In this work, we designed a Cu/CC catalyst from readily available biomass-derived D-glucose. The synthesized Cu/CC catalyst was characterized by various techniques such as FT-IR, SEM, EDX, XRD, TEM, TGA, XPS and BET. This catalyst has shown excellent catalytic activity toward the synthesis of Biological important Furyl-containing Propargylamines from furfural and xylose. A3 coupling reaction of carbonyl compounds (furfural) proceeded in 74-96 % yield, and dehydration of xylose followed by coupling products gave 55-76 % yield of propargylamines using Cu/CC catalyst. The one-pot multistep procedure is highly efficient for synthesis of propargylamines from xylose as it avoids isolation of furfural and requires a single catalyst for multi-steps. This catalyst was used as a support to immobilize low loading of copper species to be used as a catalyst in the A3 coupling reaction. More importantly, the catalyst could be recovered and reused without any significant loss in the activity. |
