제목 Protective coating of CeO2 radical scavenger for enhanced durability of PEMFC
초록 To achieve high chemical durability of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), radical scavenger, which deactivates hydroxyl radical, has been conventionally used. Metal oxdies are known to be highly effective in suppressing the chemical degradation of membane, their detrimental effect to the degradation of Pt catalyst has not been clearly understood. We discovered that the dissolution of the metal ion from metal oxide and subsequent redox reaction of the metal ion and Pt instigate a loss of catalytic activity. In this talk, we emphasize the problem of the use of metal oxide as a radical scavenger and present advanced material design for robust radical scavenger which dose not harm Pt catalyst during PEMFC operations. A combination of nano- and micro-scale interfacial engineering can enhance the chemical stability of perfluorinated sulfonic acid membrane without the degradation of Pt catalyst.
