Batteries are basically operated by the combined transport of electrons and ions, which draws our attention to electrolytes among major battery components. Although liquid electrolytes are widely used for commercial batteries, they still have critical problems in safety failure and performance degradation. Here, we present a new class of solid-state, plastic crystal polymer electrolytes with crosslinked polymer skeletons. Plastic crystals are a kind of nonflammable mesophase material. Driven by the synergistic coupling of the plastic crystals with the polymer skeletons, the plastic crystal polymer electrolytes enabled significant improvements in thermal tolerance, electrochemical performances, and also mechanical flexibility. |
