제목 A study on the characteristics of metal-loaded Beta zeolite catalyst for selective ring opening of 1-methyl naphthalene
초록 Low-quality heavy oil, by-produced from oil refinery and petrochemical industries, has been used as cheap fuel for boiler. Since rigorous environmental regulations have restricted the use of heavy oil, heavy oil needs to be upgraded as high-value chemical. A potential route for heavy oil upgrading is selective ring opening (SRO), which is hydrogenation of aromatic compounds followed by the selective breaking of C-C bonds of naphthenic structures without any loss of reactant molecular weight.  
In this study, Beta zeolite was dealuminated by acid treatment for reducing acidity. Bi-functional catalysts were prepared using Beta zeolites and metals such as Ni and W. Zeolites were used for acidic function and NiW for metallic function. 1-methyl naphthalene was selected as a model compound of multi-ring aromatics. The acidity of the catalyst has been explored the effect of the reaction performance. Optimized SRO was found out by changing the amount of acidity in this experiment.
