Microalgae have been an attractive source for technologies of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). Microalgae have many advantages such as rapid growth and high photosynthetic efficiency compared to another biomass. Microdroplet-based microfluidics using two immiscible phases has been considered as an efficient analysis tool for analysis of cell kinetics. The microdroplets can be utilized as a bioreactor so it is possible to analyze the growth of cells in single cell level. Therefore, we could analyze the characteristics of microalgae efficiently. In this context, we encapsulated microalgal cells into the microdroplets and reinjected the microdroplets into another microfluidic chamber which contains micropillar array. During the growth of microalgal cell, humidifier was used to maintain the aqueous microdroplet intact. Finally, we could monitor the photoautotrophic growth of microalgal cells in the various conditions such as CO2 concentrations and light intensities. |
