Ionic liquids composed of low molecular weight cations and anions have been attracted significant research interests as electrolytes for electrical and electrochemical devices due to their outstanding properties such as low vapor pressure, thermal, chemical and electrochemical stability, and high ionic conductivity and specific capacitance. In order to obtain such properties noted above, structuring block copolymers were blended with ionic liquids to form a solid gel called an ion gel. The ion gels have been used as gate dielectrics in thin-film transistors because of their huge capacitance values coming from nanometer thick electrical double layers at the electrode electrolyte interfaces. To incorporate an ion gel layer on a transistor, lamination, transfer printing and aerosol jet printing methods were employed. By using ion gel as a gate dielectric layer low voltage operation of a transistor was achieved. |
