A Study on Surface Energetics of Carbon Fibers Modified by Anodic Oxidation |

In this study, the effects of anodic oxidation on the mechanical interfacial properties of carbon fibers-reinforced polypropylene were investigated. The surface property changes were studied by measuring SEM, XPS, FT-IR spectroscopy, and contact angle measurements. The mechanical interfacial properties of the composites were examined by ILSS and KIC. As a result, it was observed that mechanical strength of the composites had been improved by anodic oxidation. It was shown that the presence of oxygen functional groups on carbon fiber surfaces affected the surface energetics, resulting in the increment of mechanical interfacial properties of the composites. |
