Organic-inorganic hybrid coatings were prepared to protect the surface of metal substrates using sol-gel process. Especially, trialkoxysilane end-capped sol-gel precursors having anti-corrosion properties were prepared by containing the diamino-anthraquinone functional group, which is known an effective the functional group for corrosion protection due to the high affinity of amine-anthraquinone group to the surface of metals. The coating formulations were prepared by mixing the commercially available surface treatment agent and the synthesized anti-corrosive sol-gel precursors, depending on the type and amount of diamino-anthraquinone containing sol-gel precursors. The metal substrates were coated by bar-coating, followed by thermal curing. The coatings having anti-corrosive sol-gel precursors exhibited much improved anti-corrosion properties by salt spray test and were also evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and the results from each coating will be further discussed. |
