As piezoelectric materials generate electromechanical interaction between the mechanical and the electrical state, they are usually used in various electronic applications such as sensors and actuators. Recently, piezoelectric materials in the form of nanostructures are attracting attention because of their low processing temperature and unique properties, which can expand to specific applications such as silicon-based or polymer-based electromechanical devices. Solution-based process including sol-gel is considered to be an optimal one for making nanomaterials with a uniform phase and precisely controlled composition. In this work, high residual polarization and piezoelectric coefficient values of PZT or soft PZT materials were obtained by the modified sol-gel process, which can easily control viscosity and composition of sol state. Such sol-gel nanomaterials are expected to be applied to various types of nanocrystals, thin films, thick films, and bulk ceramics. Finally, some developments of Pb-free materials, core-shell structures, and sintering aids will be reviewed for the expansion to new applications. |
