The performance of optical devices depends on the chemical structures of dyes because the light polarization is strongly related with molecular orientation. Therefore, High dichroic ratios (DR) molecules should be developed to maximize the performances of optical devices. To achieve a sufficiently large DR, a palladium(II)-based metallomesogen that have azobenzene-moiety was synthesized (Pd(DA)2). Pd(DA)2 have a four azobenzene groups linked with central organo palladium bridge. DSC, SAXS and WAXD were used to investigate the molecular packing structure depending on the temperature. For practical applications in the optical devices, the molecular orientation of the Pd(DA)2 was tuned in the electrode patterned substrate. Finally, we demonstrated the tunable polarized absorption properties of Pd(DA)2-doped cell by remote-controlling the UV and Vis lights.
