Recent years have seen extensive research on the preparation and properties of anion exchange materials (AEM), which regarded as one of the promising electrolytes for electrochemical applications. Despite extensive research, degradation of AEMs by various radicals are major concern in electrochemical application. To overcome degradation of AEMs, especially high stability of the cationic groups are required. Thus, in this study, we introduced side chain type radical scavenger on the cationic group. Herein, poly(phenylene oxide) containing a quaternary ammonium group were synthesized by in-situ quaternization using N,N,2,2,6,6-Hexamethylpiperidin-4-amine and we accorded a nitroxide functionality via oxidation, successively. A radical site were present in poly(phenylene oxide) based ionomer, which determined by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. Detailed analysis of the electrochemical properties by cyclic voltammetry confirmed the chemical reversibility of synthesized AEM. |
