In this study, the adsorption behaviors of elemental mercury by copper-contained activated carbons have been investigated. The copper-loaded activated carbons (Cu-ACs) were prepared by electroless copper plating method. Then, the Cu-ACs were heated to 350℃ for 30 min in order to introduce copper oxide. (namely, CuO-ACs). The pore structures and total pore volumes were analyzed by reference to N2/77 K adsorption isotherms, and the structural properties and surface morphologies were characterized using XRD and SEM, respectively. In the experimental result, It was found that CuO-ACs showed elemental mercury removal efficiency superior to those of Cu-ACs. This was due to the introduction of copper oxide on AC surfaces, resulting from an increase in the surface functionality. |
