Grafting of Hyperbranched Polyetherketones (PEKs) onto the surface Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWNTs) from A2 + B3 Monomers for Polyelectrolyte Applications |

We have developed facile synthesis of hyperbranched PEK’s from A2 and B3 monomers approaches using the vast difference between the solubilities of comonomers in the reaction medium, PPA/P2O5, which could be the unique approach controlling molecular weight as well as preventing gelation. This approach has been further extended to grafting of hyperbranched PEK’s MWNT. This paper is to report the covalent modification of MWNT with hyperbranched polymers from A2 and B3 monomers for Li-ion batteries. The resultant MWNT/hyperbranched PEK nanocomposites have a large number of surface carboxylic acid groups (MWNT-COOH). LiOH was dissolved in H2O and stirred with MWNT/hyperbranched PEK nanocomposites (MWNT-COOH). This process is for substitution of acidic protons in carboxylic acid with Li ions. We have confirmed the presence of Li from elemental analysis (EA). Their morphology was studied with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). |
