Carbon dioxide accumulation in the atmosphere from anthropogenic sources, mainly from the combustion of fossil fuels, is the major reason of global warming. The most effective way to reduce concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is fixation and utilization of carbon dioxide as a useful carbon source. The hydrogenation of CO2 to produces a variety of chemicals is one such process(1-2 ). Iron based catalysts have shown great promise in reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction as well as F-T synthesis, which are the two major steps involved in the hydrogenation of CO2 (1-2). several authors (3) emphasized the importance of support in iron catalysts for F-T synthesis, as it is expected to influence the iron particle size, reducibility, degree of interaction with the support, acidic-basicity and the chemical form of species present at the surface of the catalyst. Al2O3 support is widely for CO2 hydrogenation, but due to its acid functionality, the activity is less. In the present investigation it is shown that by using carbon coated alumina (CCA) as support for iron catalysts can enhance the activity in CO2 hydrogenation to hydrocarbons.
