Polydimethylsiloxane is typically prepared from oligomerized octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane. The oligomeric dimethylsiloxane is further corsslinked to obtain sheets and materials in other forms. Due to many usful properties, PDMS is one of the most widely used polymers. There have been reports on the preparation of PDMS spheres, that is again prepared from oligomers of dimethylsiloxane end-capped with polymerizable functional groups such as methacrylate. PDMS spheres with regular sizes will be useful in prepartion of composite materials with unusual properties. In this presentation, we are describing direct preparation of spherical polydimethylsiloxane at room temperature. Researches to improve the properties of these spheres are under progress. |
