Synthesis, Liquid-Crystalline Behavior and Anisotropic Optical Properties of End-group Functionalized Fluorene Oligomers |

Noble end-group functionalized fluorene oligomers were synthesized and their optical properties were characterized using UV/Vis absorption and photoluminescence spectroscopy both in solutions and films. Glass transition and liquid crystalline behavior of the oligomers were also investigated under the polarized optical microscope, by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction. While the optical properties were little affected by the end-group, thermal transition behavior was strongly affected. Particularly, the oligomers having oligosiloxane end-group exhibited smectic liquid crystalline phase. This allowed the preparation of the monodomains of the oligomers with different macroscopic orientations and the study of their anisotropic luminiscence properties. |
