Synthesis of Characterization of Poly(arylene ether diphenylamine)s through Nucleophilic Aromatic Substitution Reaction |

Poly(arylene ether diphenylamine)s were synthesized through nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) reaction of new monomer, bis-(4-fluoro-3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-amine, with several aromatic diols. Even though the monomer has an electron donating amine group which is the deactivating group for SNAr reaction, the polymerization proceeded successfully. It seems that the steric and electron withdrawing effect of trifluoromethyl group at the ortho position of fluorine leaving group is large enough to suppress the negative effect of the amine group. The detailed polymerization mechanism and properties of the polymers will be discussed.
