A number of researchers have attempted to synthesize p-conjugated small molecules, dendrimers, oligomers, and polymers because of their strong potential applications to electronics and optoelectronics such as in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and organic field effect transistors (OFETs). For instance, red and bluelight emitting dendrimers were synthesized by reacting DCM and spirobifluorene derivatives with specific dendrons. Photoluminescence (PL) studies display that light harvesting property and isolation effect could be confirmed from the existence of functional dendrons. For electronic applications, thiophene-labeled conjugated star-burst molecules have been synthesized through Heck coupling or Horner Emmons reaction and fully characterized. P-type semiconducting star-burst molecules display much better solubility, and performance than the linear conjugated oligothiophene. |
