제목 Sintering Kinetics of Nanocrystalline Titanium Powders
초록 In recent years there has been considerable interest in the mass transport mechanisms operating during sintering of nanocrystalline / nanopowders. A major shift in the relative contribution of various mass transport mechanisms has been suggested in these powders especially in the initial stages. The present investigation deals with the determination of these mass transport mechanisms in titanium nanopowders. Sintering studies have been carried out by dilatometry of the powder compacts using a constant rate of heating (CRH) and employing model equations during the initial sintering portion. The shrinkage values obtained by heating the specimens at a constant rate of heating to various temperatures were analyzed using the model proposed by Johnson and Berrin. It was also felt that the large fraction of amorphous / defective surfaces available in these powders might also contribute to sintering by viscous flow mechanism. Therefore the model originally proposed by Frenkel based on viscous flow was also used to interpret the dilatometric data. Based on the analysis of experimental data, mechanisms are proposed for the initial sintering of nano sized titanium powders.
