The construction of protein- or cell-resistant surfaces, so-called antifouling surfaces, has been of a crucial requirement in preparations of medical or analytical devices and drug delivery vehicles in direct contact with biological fluids. We have developed a novel polymer system for efficient immobilization of biomolecules onto nanomaterials, which is comprised of ‘surface anchoring group’, ‘protein-resistant group’, and ‘reactive group for biomolecule immobilization’. The polymer easily formed self-assembled polymeric layers onto various nanomaterials, including SiO2-based substrates and carbon nanotube (CNT). Subsequently, amine-contained biomolecules could be immobilized onto such nanomaterials via covalent bond formation. In this presentation, I will discuss design and synthesis of the polymer system and immobilization strategies of biomolecules onto several nanomaterials using the self assembled polymeric layers. |
