제목 Synthesis of PE-b-PMMA through a Combination of Ethylene Polymerization with Chain Transfer to Aluminum and Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization
초록 Block copolymers of linear polyethylene(PE) and polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA) were synthesized through a combination of ethylene polymerization with chain transfer to aluminum and atom transfer radical polymerization(ATRP). Selective chain transfer reaction in the ethylene polymerization by a sterically bulky metallocene catalyst and MAO produced an aluminum-terminated polyethylene. The aluminum-terminated polyethylene was oxidized using oxygen, followed by hydrolysis to provide a hydroxy terminated polyethylene(PE-OH). The molecular weight of PE-OH was controlled by the concentration of trimethylaluminum. The PE-OH was converted into a polyethylene macroinitiator, and ATRP of MMA with the polyethylene macroinitiator produced block copolymers of PE and PMMA.
