제목 Raman Spectroscopy for Nanostructure Characterization and Nanostructures for Raman Spectroscopy
초록 Raman spectroscopy, which used to be a burden-some instrument and used only in some specialized research area, has become one of essential characterization tools in nanoscience due to its instrumental development (laser, spectrometer, and so on) and also its strong application power for nanostructure characterization. This technique's merit mainly comes from its wide coverage of target samples of almost all phases (gas, liquid, and solid) and from its intrinsic nature of structure characterization such as bonding strength, molecular geometry, and environmental effect by functional substitutions. In this respect, I would like to talk about structure characterization of WxMo1-xO3 phase transition in nanoscale domain by Raman spectroscopy.
Raman spectroscopy does not only serve for nanoscience but is also served by nanoscience. Raman scattering signal of molecules can be enhanced up to order of 14 in some special cases, especially adsorbed on specially designed metal nanostructures. There has been some debates on the mechanism of the huge signal enhancement of molecules adsorbed on noble metal surfaces. Nowadays it is believed that the interspatial locations between two or more nanoparticles can be the so called "Hot Spot" due to the overlap of enhanced localized optical field from particles. Based on this concepts, here I would like to introduce a few trials to fabricate the "Hot Spot" for surface-enhanced Raman scattering using silver nanospheres and nanowires in view of reproducibility, predictability, and easy manipulation. Especially, the system made from silver nanowires showed strong polarization dependence of Raman signals of R6G molecules adsorbed on the silver nanowire surfaces.
