제목 Influence of the interface between glass and phosphor on luminous efficiency of white LED
초록 Glass sealing materials for phosphor in glass (PIG) type is attracting tremendous attention to protect white light emitting diode (LED) and to fix a phosphor on a chip. However, the reaction between glass and phosphor after sintering has been rarely considered. The influence of the reaction layer between glass and phosphor to the luminous efficiency of PIG was not confirmed as well. The main purpose of this study is to find the effect of the interface on the luminous efficiency with respect to the various compositions of phosphors. The SiO2-B2O3-ZnO glass system and three types of phosphor, which are Y2Al5O12:Ce3+, Sr2SiO4:Eu2+ and CaAlSiN3:Eu2+, mixed and were sintered to form a PIG. The PIG plate sintered at 580-640oC for 30min in the air to find out the temperature dependence of the luminous efficiency. Phosphor distribution and interface composition were measured by a confocal microscope and EDS, respectively. The integrated sphere and color-difference meter were also used to examine the luminous efficiency and correlated color temperature (CCT). It is confirmed that the light from LED chip was scattered by the pore inside the PIG at above 10wt% of phosphor content because the aggregation of the excess phosphor obstructs the pore migration to the outside of the glass. The luminous efficiency and CCT of all the PIG samples were influenced by the increase of the sintering temperature. These results were explained by the reaction of the glass composition with the phosphor layer. An adjustment of the sintering temperature and the distribution of the phosphor in the PIG fabrication process can be established with respect to the high luminous efficiency with low pore region and reaction layer around the phosphors.
