Synthesis of Crosslinked Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) Microgels Prepared via Distillation Precipitation Polymerization |

Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) microgels were prepared by distillation precipitation polymerization at 80°C in acetonitrile solvent with 2,2-azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator and N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinker. The effects of degree of crosslinking on the morphology and lower critical solution temperature (LCST) were investigated by using an SEM and a DSC. The yields of PNIPAAm microgels increased with increasing MBA content. The shapes of PNIPAAm microgels obtained with MBA content of more than 20% were not spherical and thier surface became rough and crumpled. LCST of PNIPAAm microgels was around at 32°C. |
