The increased demand for quicker, cheaper, simpler, and more reliable organic vapour sensors in such areas as monitoring environmental pollution, toxic chemical gas detection has led to an upsurge of interests in polymer-based nanostructured materials such as nanofibers. Polymer nanofibers have been prepared via many methods such as physical, chemical, thermal, and electrostatic fabrication techniques. Among the techniques of fabricating polymer nanofibers, electrospinning is the most widely used method. Electrospun nanofibers have been used as the sensing materials due to its unique properties such as a high specific surface area and high porosity. In this work, we fabricated PAN/MWCNT nanofibers by electrospinning for the application of vapour sensor. Modified MWCNT was used as the conductive material. Various concentrations of MWCNT were incorporated into PAN nanofibers and the fabricated sensor was tested upon cyclic exposure to different vapours. |
