제목 Morphology Controlled Synthesis of Nanostructured CuO Photocathode via Pechini method for Enhanced Solar Water-splitting
초록 CuO is an attractive photocathode for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water-splitting due to its small bandgap, high absorption coefficient, suitable band-edge position, and favorable characteristics such as earth-abundancy, low cost, and non-toxicity. In this study, we report a morphology-controlled synthesis of CuO films via facile Pechini strategy. Three different morphologies, i.e., porous-nanoparticles, hollow-nanospheres and hollow-nanotubes were synthesized by controlling the mole ratio of ethylene glycol and citric acid in the sol-gel precursor solution. Microstructure and optical properties of the resultant films were characterized by transmission electron microscopy and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Additionally, the PEC performance was measured to elucidate the effect of the morphology modifications. We found that a highest photocurrent density of -2.5 mA/cm2 was recorded at 0 V vs. RHE in a 0.5M Na2SO4 under 1 sun illumination.
